World Water Day 2021

Today the 22/03/2021 the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy (MOWIE) together with various stakeholders celebrated the World Water Day; this year’s theme is valuing water. Opening remarks were given by various Senior MOWIE officials such as His Excellency Mr Mutuma Mekasa and His Excellency State Minister Dr Negash Wagesho. Additionally a press briefing was held by the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy with additional stakeholders such as UNICEF & Water Aid. His Excellency Dr Negash Wagesho & His Excellency Dr Abraha Adugna gave remarks on behalf of MOWIE at the press briefing. The Honorable State Ministers talked about the various initiatives MOWIE is undertaking around the theme of valuing water. They mentioned various programs such as the ONE- WASH program, climate resilient WASH & the upcoming joint project between MOWIE & UNICEF on the eradication of open defecation. While partners such as Water Aid & UNICEF mentioned the need for data collection to better understand water access challenges as well as collectively working together as an ecosystem to improve upon the challenges witnessed in the sector. Thereafter there were presentations presented by various stakeholders starting off with Dr Tena from Addis Ababa University’s Land & Water Resource Center whose presentation was on valuing water sources & infrastructure. Among the various crucial points made by Dr Tena one of those mentioned was the importance of afforestation via the green legacy initiative that would ensure the reduction of erosion by 70% which in turn would increase the life time of infrastructure projects such as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Project (GERD) to an estimated 375years. The next presentation presented by the head of the Water Development Commission Dr Beshah was on Valuing Water Services. Dr Beshah’s presentation touched upon the following; the roles of water in households, schools, workplaces, health care facilities & in COVID-19 prevention. Lastly the finally presenter was Mr Tedla from the Millennium Water Alliance presenting on valuing water as an input to production and socio-economic activity and valuing socio-cultural aspects of water. The program was concluded with a panel discussion lead by His Excellency Dr Negash Wagesho State Minister of MOWIE. The panel participants all touched upon various aspects of water value from valuing water sources discussed by Dr Amare of the International Water Management Institute. To valuing water services touched upon  by Mr Kitka from UNICEF to valuing water as an input to production and socio-economic activity touched upon by the Honorable Commissioner Dr Wondimu of the Irrigation Development Commission under MOWIE. As well as valuing socio-cultural aspects of water touched upon by Mr Yacob from Water Aid. Lastly Mr Getachew from the Basins Development Authority touched upon interconnection among the different aspects of valuing water. Closing remarks were made by His Excellency Dr Abraha Adugna whereby he stated the need to not only celebrate world water day & remember the value of water on just one day but also on all 365 days as water is a valuable & finite resource that must always be taken care off & valued every day.

ለኢነርጂ ልማት የሚውሉ ሞተር ሳይክሎች ከአገር ውጭ ተገዝተው ለክልሎች እና ከተማ አስተዳደሮች ተሰራጭተዋል


በኢነርጂ ፕላስ ፕሮግራም የአረንጓዴ ኢኮኖሚ ልማት ፕሮጀክቶችንና ፕሮግራሞችን ለመከታተልና ለመገምገም የሚውሉ 150 ሞተር ሳይክሎች በ1,143,922 ብር ተገዝተው ከውጭ አገር ወደ አገር ውስጥ ገብተው ለ 9 ክልሎችና ሁለት ከተማ አስተዳደሮች በፌዴራል ቀመር መሰረት በጥቅምት ወር አጋማሽ ጀምሮ ተሰራጭተዋል፡፡

የገንዘብ ምንጩ በኢትዮጵያና ኖርዌይ የባይላተራል ስምምነት መሰረት ከተገኘው 40 ሚሊዮን ክሮነር ድጋፍ ላይ ነው፡፡
